In 2015, United Nations identified and adopted sustainable development goals (SDGs) on the global level. We at Divine Child High School on micro-level adopted the programme. We had started with the Green Army Programme way back in 2019 but had to press the ‘pause’ button on our activities due to the pandemic. We have now revived it and are back actively working towards achieving results.
We had an event on 21st September 2022 where we had to present the work we had done so far, as well as our on-going work. Parisar Asha and Mahindra lifespaces dignitaries / members were invited to our school to help us understand more on the concept of sustainable living and conservation of energy. Members of the Green Army and the dignitaries introduced themselves. Students of Stds. VII & VIII screened a PowerPoint Presentation for the guests, on all activities conducted in the school, pertaining to this programme. They very specifically and proudly informed the dignitaries through their presentation that the Green Army had formed five committees to overlook all related activities –
Water Committee – responsible for clean water and sanitation;
Health Committee – responsible for overall health and wellbeing; talking about healthy and nutritious foods;
Energy Committee – responsible for saving energy;
Waste Committee – responsible for clean school, clean communities, clean city; conducting activities on how to make the best use of waste – Reduce, Recycle, Reuse.
Biodiversity Committee – responsible for looking into climate action; life below water and on land; conducting poster-making competitions on ‘Save the Environment’; helping to organize ‘Vanamahotsav Day’.
After the presentation, the dignitaries were felicitated. Dr. Sunita Purushottam, Head of Sustainability at Mahindra Lifespaces spoke on how to keep our area and school hygienic. Students of the Green School committee were awarded certificate of appreciation. At the conclusion of the programme, the guests were taken to see the vermicomposting site in our school, the saplings which we planted on Vanamahotsav Day and the Best out of Waste articles made by the students. The efforts of the students pleased the dignitaries very much.
