Undoubtedly, a matter of pride for Indians that the United Nations in the year 2010, declared the birth anniversary of our Late President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam as ‘World Students’ Day’. It was his love for the teaching profession and students in particular, that promoted it.
His birthday 15th October is marked as ‘Reading Day’ or ‘No Bag Day’ in schools and was celebrated in our school on Friday 14th October 2016.
The day began with regular prayer service followed by speeches given by our students Shirley D’Souza and Jessica Joby on the life and works of Dr. Kalam. The teachers in-charge not only highlighted the importance of reading but also presented a model reading for the students.
The students enjoyed the experience of reading books of their choice and interest and exchanged them with each other. Teachers encouraged the students to indulge in this thrilling and exciting pastime of reading.
A short clipping on a lecture inspiring students to learn, read and gain knowledge by A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was screened for the students.
