ELDERS’ DAY

ELDERS’ DAY

Grandparents are the most special friends a grandchild could ever have.

To thank these wonderful gifts given to us by God, Divine Child High School organized ‘Grandparents Day’ on Saturday 1st October 2022. The occasion was to make grandparents feel special and loved. It was an opportunity to celebrate them for the wisdom and love they shower on their grandchildren.

Students performed dances and sang songs to entertain their grandparents.
Dr. Smita Patil, a renowned family physician was the Chief Guest who shared a lot of health tips for grandparents to keep themselves fit and healthy.
As a token of love, a sapling was gifted to each grandparent. They all had a wonderful time.

Swachh Bharat Swasth Bharat Abhiyaan – Cleanliness Drive

Swachh Bharat Swasth Bharat Abhiyaan – Cleanliness Drive

As Gandhi Jayanti was just around the corner, our school organized a Cleanliness Drive under ‘Swachh Bharat Swasth Bharat Abhiyaan’ programme on 30th September 2022. The main purpose of this programme was to create awareness among the students regarding cleanliness and its benefits.
Under this programme, students and even the principal and teachers were an essential part of this drive. As part of the drive, we had to clean the whole school including the garden where small unwanted weeds/plants had to be cleaned out. Cleaning the classrooms, corridors, garden with brooms and other cleaning tools; picking waste wrappers lying scattered around and discarding all waste in dustbins.
This was a unique and fulfilling experience for all.

Dramatics Competition

The much awaited Dramatics Competition was held on 20th September 2022. Each house was given a Shakespeare play to perform, namely –
Red House – Hamlet
Blue House – King Lear
Green House – The Tempest
Yellow House – Romeo & Juliet

The students were enthusiastic and very involved in all aspects of the play, right down to the minute detailing – learning scripts, making costumes, props, etc. The final performances were excellent and the judges were very happy and found judging extremely difficult.

Green School Programme

Green School Programme

In 2015, United Nations identified and adopted sustainable development goals (SDGs) on the global level. We at Divine Child High School on micro-level adopted the programme. We had started with the Green Army Programme way back in 2019 but had to press the ‘pause’ button on our activities due to the pandemic. We have now revived it and are back actively working towards achieving results.
We had an event on 21st September 2022 where we had to present the work we had done so far, as well as our on-going work. Parisar Asha and Mahindra lifespaces dignitaries / members were invited to our school to help us understand more on the concept of sustainable living and conservation of energy. Members of the Green Army and the dignitaries introduced themselves. Students of Stds. VII & VIII screened a PowerPoint Presentation for the guests, on all activities conducted in the school, pertaining to this programme. They very specifically and proudly informed the dignitaries through their presentation that the Green Army had formed five committees to overlook all related activities –
Water Committee – responsible for clean water and sanitation;
Health Committee – responsible for overall health and wellbeing; talking about healthy and nutritious foods;
Energy Committee – responsible for saving energy;
Waste Committee – responsible for clean school, clean communities, clean city; conducting activities on how to make the best use of waste – Reduce, Recycle, Reuse.
Biodiversity Committee – responsible for looking into climate action; life below water and on land; conducting poster-making competitions on ‘Save the Environment’; helping to organize ‘Vanamahotsav Day’.
After the presentation, the dignitaries were felicitated. Dr. Sunita Purushottam, Head of Sustainability at Mahindra Lifespaces spoke on how to keep our area and school hygienic. Students of the Green School committee were awarded certificate of appreciation. At the conclusion of the programme, the guests were taken to see the vermicomposting site in our school, the saplings which we planted on Vanamahotsav Day and the Best out of Waste articles made by the students. The efforts of the students pleased the dignitaries very much.
