RESPECTFULLY… MAHARASHTRA!

Like every year, the month of January is a special month for the girls of Divine Child High School. They proudly remember the woman Savitribai Phule who first gave all women, the opportunity to be recognized and respected as an individual with rights. Her legacy lives on through all women who today are educated, run a home, pursue a career and are on equal standing with men in society.
Divine Child High School honours her memory by dedicating the month of January to her by organizing different events. On her birthday 3rd January, an assembly was conducted, a Std. 8 student dressed as Savitribai Phule, spoke at length about her dreams and her work for the education right of women. The motivational speech was appreciated by all.

With the coming of the month of February, on Tuesday 20th February the school celebrated the birth anniversary of Shivaji Maharaj – a revered historical leader who created an independent and sovereign state in Maharashtra. The students of Std. 6 conducted the assembly. A student of Std. 8 dressed in the attire of Shivaji Maharaj and some others dressed as characters from the life of Shivaji Maharaj. Various competitions were held through the day – Essay (Std. 5); Quiz (Std. 6); Collage making (Std. 7); Making of Fort structures (Std. 8).

Marathi Bhasha Diwas was celebrated on Tuesday 27th February with great pomp. This day coincides with the birth anniversary of Kusumagraj a Marathi poet, writer and social reformer who played a vital role in promoting the Marathi language and culture.
The assembly prayers were conducted in Marathi. At the assembly the Marathi pledge was taken and the importance of the Marathi language was also explained. Students dressed in the Nauvari attire, complete with Pheta. It was a sight to behold. The programme was set as such – a Collage and Drawing competition (Std. 5); Group and Solo singing (Std. 6); Traditional Marathi ballad Powada on the life of Shivaji was narrated (Std. 7); A One-Act Play (Std. 8). Students from Stds. 5-9 also participated in a cultural programme exhibiting dances from the state of Maharashtra – Koli, Farmer Dance, etc. And not to forget, sumptuous mouthwatering Maharashtrian ‘thali’ and delicacies were displayed.

Folk Dance Competition

The Inter-House Folk Dance Competition held on 19th July 2024, showcased the talent of students who through their dance moves aimed in promoting the rich cultural heritage of our country. They performed with gusto displaying teamwork, artistic expression, coordination and synchronization. The competition was absolutely entertaining and a huge success, celebrating the beauty of cultural diversity.

 

Farewell Dear Tr. Emilda & Tr. Scarlet

Our school bid farewell to two Primary teachers – Tr. Emilda at the end of last academic year and Tr. Scarlet at the end of the first term this year. Both were dearly loved and respected as mentors and mother figures to the little ones who actually bid them a tearful goodbye.

On 11th April 2023, Divine Child High School organized a heartfelt farewell event to bid adieu to Tr. Emilda, who had been an integral part of our institution for 18 yrs. The event commenced with a prayer service and a warm welcome by teachers, who shared anecdotes and memories highlighting Tr. Emilda’s dedication, passion and positive influence. This was followed by speeches and entertainment programme from students and teachers, who expressed gratitude for Tr. Emilda’s guidance and mentorship, which extended beyond the classroom.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Tr. Emilda for her unwavering dedication, passion and commitment to education and wish her all the best in her future endeavours.

TR. SCARLET D’SOUZA
Tr. Scarlet bid farewell to Divine Child High School on 31st October 2023. The staff and students gathered together to celebrate the profound impact she had on countless lives over her 36 years in the school a special prayer service was conducted for Tr. Scarlet’s future endeavours asking for blessings of success, fulfillment and happiness in her new journey.

During the farewell event students, staff and management expressed heartfelt gratitude for Tr. Scarlet’s contribution by sharing personal experiences and messages of appreciation, highlighting the positive influence she has had on their lives. As Tr. Scarlet embarked on a new chapter, she carried with her the best wishes of the entire Divine Child High School community. Her legacy will endure, serving as a beacon of inspiration for future generations of students and educators alike.

Annual Prize Distribution

“Appreciation is the key in the life of a student”

The Annual Prize Distribution for the academic year 2023-2024 was held on 17th August 2024. It is a day marked to acknowledge the efforts and achievements of students who demonstrated exceptional talent, dedication and skill during the academic year 2023-2024. The achievers were applauded and presented with scholarship certificates.

The Principal Sr. Olivia Fernandes, presented the School Annual Report through a Power-Point Presentation. The School Magazine was released at the hands of the Chief Guest Dr. Payal Nandurkar. True to its meaning, the entertainment programme was thoroughly entertaining.

CLOSING ADDRESS FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2023-2024

It’s that time of the year again when an extended break from academics is anticipated with eagerness and excitement. As we retrospect the academic year gone by, as a team we’ve had a fair share of achievements and quite a number of challenges too. But overall, by the grace and blessings of our patron Divine Child, we have sailed through boldly, happily and successfully.

I sincerely hope that for you personally, this year has proven to be a stepping stone to a higher place, treading new grounds and accomplishing desired goals; and I’m proud of your feats be it in academics, sports, extra-curricular or personality-related. I pray that your passion and drive to grow and excel as a better individual lingers on for the next academic year.

But now, it’s time to relax, rejuvenate and have fun with family and friends… and also find time to do things worthwhile that will further enhance your ability to reach goals in the coming year.
 Make an effort to read often to improve vocabulary; practice writing; work on maths.
 Be part of a swimming / yoga club to keep physically and mentally healthy.
 Register into art and craft classes to stir creative juices and build on them.
 Join camps that will help improve personality.
 Help in household chores; have family activities.
 Stay positive and find ways of living our motto “Born for Others.”

At the closing of this academic year, some essential details for you to take note of and adhere to –
• PTA General Body Meeting for parents of Primary students will be on Friday 12th April 2024 at 8:00am. It is mandatory for parents to attend this meeting.
• Open Day (for students only –Std. V to Std. IX) will be on Tuesday 16th April 2024 from 8.00am to 9.30am.
• Bal Mela, a day of fun and entertainment organized for the not-so-privileged children around our locality is on Friday 19th April 2024.
• Results for Sr. KG & Jr. KG on Thursday 25th April 2024.
• Readmission & book collection for students of Sr. KG promoted to Std. I on Friday 26th April 2024.
• Results – Std. IV on Thursday 25th April 2024.
• Readmission & book collection for students of Std. IV promoted to Std. V on Friday 26th April 2024.

A Walk with Nature

On 28th August 2024, the Nature Club students ventured out on a field trip to visit Maharashtra Nature Park.

They had a field day, alright!… With the viewing of a video on flora and fauna of the campus and then setting out on a Nature Trail. The students gained clarity on various myths connected with snakes/butterflies/Peepal tree, etc. They also received information on various Sections such as Wooden area; Nakshatra Van; Butterfly; Rainwater Harvesting; Medicinal Plant; Fruit Tree; Vermi Compost Demonstration. It was truly an ideal place to study biodiversity and learn Nature Ethics in the relaxed atmosphere.
